MANAGER CORP TRANSPORTATION

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for strategy, planning, coordination, and execution of Corporate logistics transportation functions that include contract negotiations, setting rates, creating guidelines, and establishing goals and procedures.

  • Participate in transportation planning and strategic activities to develop work methods and determine procedures for personal property, personnel, material movements, equipment preparation, packaging, and processing of cargo for shipment. Meet with National accounts to develop cost reduction strategies for LTL & SPS shipping.
  • Identify LTL & SPS providers and negotiate contracts and pricing for all company divisions. Evaluate areas of opportunity for greatest cost savings and incorporation into one core carrier program.
  • Negotiate competitive transportation rates with carriers and constantly evaluate rates and make changes when necessary. Qualify, negotiate and maintain all carrier tariffs, pricing and contracts electronically and hard copy.
  • Ensure strict DOT compliance and compliance to company guidelines and policies as it relates to LTL and SPS.
  • Work with Logistics Accounting department for assigning freight expense to company's general ledger from carrier bill. Oversee the processing of 12,000 LTL, SPS and Air Freight transactions weekly
  • Provide highest level of customer service to build and maintain positive relationships with customers and ensure that customer goods are moved efficiently and cost-effectively from production through to the customer. Develop and implement updated SPS software at all divisions major shipping points to improve customer service and tracking capabilities and reduce labor cost at distribution points
  • Create and review reports related to transportation. Compile, analyze and distribute inter-departmental weekly and monthly LTL, SPS and Air Freight reports
  • Manage and analyze carrier performance and proactively take steps to problem-solve and address issues and potential issues. Address calls regarding general traffic & carrier matters.
  • Conduct staff meetings, inter-departmental meetings, and carrier meetings. Develop educational programs and conduct workshops and training and seminars.
  • Develop and integrate with Purchasing new Router LTL software system. Develop strategies for implementing other software and systems for improved efficiency and cost savings in regards to LTL and SPS
  • Project Manager for AS400 NMFC product master program
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform job.
  • Knowledge of Contract Law a plusMinimum of 8 years experience in Transportation role, with 4+ years in management
  • Continuous Improvement training and lean project management experience required.
  • Purchasing or engineering experience in a high volume, commodity driven manufacturing environment highly desired

  • Strong financial and analytical aptitude
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of warehousing and logistics operations
  • Strong analytical and communication skills. Excellent communicator and negotiator, both verbally and written. Knowledge of contract law highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and mentor employees
  • Ability to identify, analyze and resolve business issues
  • Advanced ability to develop, manage and leverage strategic supplier relationships
  • Ability and willingness to challenge established practices and draw relevant conclusions to market and sell new ideas within the division
  • Proficiency with MS Office. and ability to understand basic mathematical concepts and calculations.
